Yeah, it’s been a while since the original Aniplex/Bones series had its finale in the form of The Conqueror of Shamballa, but now you can see Ed and Al once again!
So far this series has rehashed the necessary and relevant information from the earlier series all within the first 14 episodes, changing and leaving out a few things here and there.
As for how close this series sticks to the manga as opposed to its predecessor, I don’t know. For as much the nerd, and veritable “otaku”, that I am, I’ve only read the first chapter of the first volume so you will have to figure that out your self. What I can tell you is that “Brotherhood” is just as interesting as the original but that soon changes after the first 14 episodes and in the best possible way.
And this most recent news straight from FUNimation itself:
“Can’t catch the broadcast premiere Saturday? Not to worry fellow anime fans. FUNimation is happy to announce that we are also bringing you brand spanking new dubbed episodes of ‘Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood’ every Sunday for download-to-own on PlayStation®Network and Zune Marketplace.
“Watch a new episode on Saturday – buy it for your console of choice on Sunday! We anime professionals at FUNimation once again make it easy to get the shows you want, where you want, and when you want.”
